Whew! In an amazingly competitive first round playoff game against 6th ranked Ruston, we pulled out a win surviving on, you guessed it......getting back to fundamentals.

The defense led all night pitching their first offensive shutout of the season by mastering gap-control, run fit support (option responsibilities), linemen reads, and tackling. It was actually just what we needed to improve as football players. The defense stole two interceptions, scoring on one of them.

The offense was confronted with basic looks and was unable to establish their usual aerial dominance.......reverting to fundamental ball security and blocking. Hats off to the Ruston defense and their coordinator, J.P. Dunbar, who had his kids ready to play and tenaciously executed their Cover 2.

The highlight of the night occurred with less than 20 seconds in the 4th quarter on their 15 yard line, up 12-7, we opted to take a safety.

Great win and it matches us up with district nemesis, Haughton (again).

Leaving late in the morning, the players were treated to a pre-game meal at Barnhill's buffet (again) and then shoved off to Ruston for the evening's game.

Arriving with plenty of time before kickoff, the players were escorted through a tour of Louisiana Tech and were exposed to the college atmosphere (though most of the campus was vacant in anticipation for the LSU-Tech game on Saturday).

Advice and a bold prediction from my guy, Randy Little (#41), a day before the game
