African Nations Cup 2012: Zambia clinched the cup after prominent Ivory coast star Didier Drogba, Kolo Touré and Yao Kouassi Gervinho miss penalty kicks.

African cup of Nations 2012 came to an end with Zambia beating highly rated Ivory Coast on penalty shoot-out after 0-0 score in extra time. Zambia won the crown as consolation of county lost 19 years ago when 18 member of the squad died in Libreville after plane crash. Ivory coast playing their 19th Africa Cup of Nations finals while Zambia 15th, but both team were play the final for only third time. Ivory Coast won the cup in 1992 and Zambia was looking for their first cup having finished second place on 1974 and 1994. This year’s final brought 18th (1st) and 71st (16th) teams in FIFA ranking in world and CAF in bracket respectively.

Ivory Coast earned a penalty on regulation time after a penalty box foul on Gervinho, but Didier Drogba took the penalty and sent the high above the bar and put his team on penalty shoot-out risk. Both team start well in penalty shoot-out, Ivory Coast taking the first penalty leaving Zambia with tough task of coming from behind and level the score. The shootout went correctly for the penalty kickers but not for the goalkeepers, until it was 7-7 each. Then came the two consecutive miss for Ivory Coast by Kolo Touré and Yao Kouassi Gervinho sandwiching Zambia miss by Rainford Kalaba. 22 years old Stophira Sunzu took the next penalty for Zambia and converted to make the score 8-7 and won the African Cup of Nations for his country.
Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard was confident winning the tie and confidence translated to his players who faced highly rated players in the world at every position. Zambia became only the second team in The Southern part of Africa to lift the cup after South Africa

Arsenal's top hit man, Robin Van Persie score his 14th goal to send Arsenal to 5th
Arsenal crushed Wigan Athletic 4-0 with goals coming from four different player Mikel Arteta (28'), Thomas Vermaelen (29'), Gervinho (61') and the current premiership top scorer Robin Van Persie (78') who added his goals tally to 14. Arsenal have now moved to fifth place in the Barclays Premier League table as Wigan being sent to 20th position due to poor goal difference.

The premier league top goal scorers in the past ten years only have seven strikers. Thierry Henry won the premier league golden boot four times in the past ten years, in 2001-2002 as Arsenal won premier league trophy and when he won the award for three consecutive years 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. In the year 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 he also won the European Golden Shoe/boot award with 60 and 50 points respectively. Ruud van Nistelrooy scored many goals for Manchester United but only top the top score list once and gave Man Utd the title. Drogba won it twice 2006–2007 when Chelsea won premier league title and 2009–2010. Last season the top scorer award were shared among Manchester United Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester City Carlos Tévez both on 20 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo score 31 to fire the red devils to the premier league title and lead with most goals scored in on season in the past ten years but Ronaldo ranked third played to have scored many goals in one season since its inception 1992 after Andrew Cole (Newcastle United 1993–1994) and Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers 1994–945). But Cole and Shearer played in 42 games season. Cristiano Ronaldo shared 31 goals per season record with Alan Shearer though Ronaldo has high rate of goals scored per game 0.91. None of the top scorer played all premier league games in the past ten years but at least all have played more than 30 games. Andrew Cole is the only played to have played all league matches as he played 42 games in 1993–1994.
