Arsenal crushed Wigan Athletic 4-0 with goals coming from four different player Mikel Arteta (28'), Thomas Vermaelen (29'), Gervinho (61') and the current premiership top scorer Robin Van Persie (78') who added his goals tally to 14. Jermain Defoe hit hat-trick and fire Tottenham to 5-1 win over Hull city to register second win of the season and move top of the table. Tottenham make 100% win after two games, a record they register 14 years ago while Hull City have not won 12 consecutive league matches since March. The Wembley Cup is friendly football competition started on 24th to 26 July 2009 in Wembley Stadium. The competition involves four teams; The European champions (Barcelona FC), the African champions (Al Alhly), Celtic FC and Tottenham FC.

The first two matches saw Celtic leading the group after beating Al Alhly 5-0 when the weaker fielded Barcelona side draw 1-1 with Tottenham FC.
