Manchester United stayed closer to Manchester City with 2-1 win over Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Goal from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck were enough to see off Arsenal and restore 3 points gap with Premier league leaders. Premier league top scorer,  Robin van Persie scored his 18 premier league goal of the season but was not enough to stop Sir Alex Ferguson club. The gunners lost to United 8-2 in the first round Arsenal vs Manchester United encounter. Earlier Manchester City grabbed a 3-2  late minute win over Tottenham.

Per Mertesacker: The defender moved from Werder Bremen on final premier transfer days. He has played for two previous world cup final and in both reached semi-finals. He will be set to bring his experience and Bundesliga tackling style. Per Mertesacker as a defender he will quickly adapt at Premier league more easily than a striker. Werder Bremen was not and is not a usually title contender and Mertesacker won’t be that much trophy oriented.
